Unique collection of the continental solar resource poster maps

Recently, we have enlarged the collection of solar resource maps with the maps at continental scales, covering Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania, Europe, Middle East, North America and South America. We show three important parameters for each region, representing the long-term average totals of global horizontal irradiation (GHI), direct normal irradiation (DNI) and photovoltaic power potential (PVOUT). The maps can be downloaded as ready-to-print images in two sizes:

  • Poster-size suitable for large-format printing
  • Medium-size suitable for on-screen presentation or A4/letter size printing. More information on the file formats and notes on printing are available in the Tech-Specs section

Most recent solar data from Solargis database (covering the full period up to year 2020) are involved in the released map products. And, compared to previous versions, we also improved cartographic techniques and final rendering.

These maps help us better understand the spatial context of the presented phenomena.

Such knowledge is incredibly important for solar strategy planners, decision-makers, developers, researchers or educators.

The map products are completely free, released within CC 4.0 BY-SA license. Please, let us know if you find them useful. Or send us a photo if you arrange a printout for your office or use the maps for an event in your community.Since 2018, we have released solar resource maps for more than 200 countries and regions to support various stakeholders in the solar energy domain. Most of the country maps were published by the World Bank, financed by ESMAP and prepared by Solargis and can be accessed also at Global Solar Atlas. Some regions were pro-actively released from Solargis initiative and can be accessed only via Solargis Download section.
